A paradise of eco-nuances and intangible delights cocooned between an undisturbed jungle and the glistening Caribbean Sea.” Something that, until now, you’d need to travel to Tulum to find on Mexico’s Riviera Maya—and as anyone who’s been there can tell you, visiting Tulum can at times be an expensive, inconvenient, and annoying proposition, what with the distance, traffic, crowds, constant partying and inflated prices.

Isla Holbox, Mexico guide
Holbox Island is a small piece of heaven on earth on the Yucatan Peninsula, northwest of Cancun, Mexico. Only 26 miles long and one mile wide, this island is comprised of 22 miles of white and coral sand beach.
It is separated from the mainland coast of Mexico by a shallow lagoon which gives sanctuary to thousands of flamingos, pelicans, and other exotic birds and creatures.
The island is a 40-minute ferry ride off the northern coast of the Yucatan peninsula that Cancun calls home. Isla Holbox is intimate, romantic, and definitely wild. Here people don’t drive cars, they use golf carts and beach cruisers.
You can easily combine a stay on Isla Holbox with more popular honeymoon choices such as Riviera Maya, Cozumel, or Tulum. But Holbox has also got plenty to keep you occupied for days and days!
Holbox Island is located where the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea mix. The marine life here is plentiful and diverse. It is easy to find whale sharks, manta rays, and dolphins but also lobsters, octopus, eagle rays, and sea turtles.
